Just as Important as Exercise and Diet
Emotional wellbeing has often been touted as being just as important as our physical health. But is this really true? Well according to leading research, and even newly revisited research from years ago, our emotional state is directly related to our ability to fight disease and sickness. For example, two people in the exact same physical shape, age, and sex could be fighting the flu, and the one who maintains a positive outlook can get back to normal sometimes 50% faster than the other!
Of course most of us have seen this in our day to day lives. We have that one friend or family member that never seems to catch a cold, and it seems like nothing can ever get them down. It's quite literally their outlook on life that's maintaining their health. It's almost supernatural the way that our mental health directly effects our physical health.
Physical recovery isn't reserved strictly to our positive mindset of course. The physical world still operates on properties that demand our attention, and just having a positive outlook doesn't mean you can heal everything. But looking at the placebo effect you'd think that were the case.
There have been many scientific studies on the placebo effect. A controlled group is given standard antibiotics while another control group is given a placebo pill (a sugar pill that has no true physical effect). In every test done the placebo group does well. Often they do just as well, if not better than the group that's given the standard medicine. So what can we take away from these studies and put into our day to day lives, other than knowing the powerful ability of the mind to shape our reality?
Before we jump into any new venture or begin taking a new medicine that is supposed to give us health benefits, we have to realize the power of our minds. Our mind needs to be aligned with our end goals. You can't begin supplementing with something meant to take care of dental or hearing issues and only half believe that it'll work for you. You need to believe that if it has worked for thousands of others, you're simply next on the list for the amazing health benefits. Because to believe otherwise is to negate everything you think you're working towards. Your mind is working towards the opposite if you don't believe in your medicine. So ALWAYS choose a medicine that aligns with your beliefs as this will give you the greatest increase in health you can find.
