Hearing health and the causes of poor hearing is something much debated about between researchers and scientists. Most believe that a reasonable amount of hearing loss is to be expected as we age. But why do some people develop hearing issues such as tinnitus, ear infections, and major hearing loss so early on in their lives? And is there a single reason for all of these issues?
Like almost all health issues, hearing medicine mostly attacks the symptoms of hearing loss. This can be attributed in part due to the hearing industry wanting to make the maximum profit possible, and if they were to actually find the root cause of hearing loss and fix it, you'd no longer come back as a paying customer. This style of business can be found in every major health industry. But even so, are there any studies that hint at a true cause of hearing related issues?
While a lot of progress has been made when it comes to extending the range of the frequencies we can hear, as well as increasing the volume of what's heard, not much has been made in the case of the true underlying cause. The products out there focus on the ear itself, but there are an increasing number of studies showing that hearing loss doesn't JUST lie with the ears themselves. Most of these research papers point out that the link between the ears and the brain is the real issue.
Now does this mean that hearing issues are exclusively the brain's problem? Absolutely not. If you worked in a machine shop your entire life and were exposed to loud noises 5 times a day for hours, it's very likely that irreversible damage has been done to the ear itself. But most of us subjected to this on a regular basis, and yet our hearing tends to get worse and worse the older we get. And although our bodies age too, it bolsters the research pointing to the brain itself as the culprit.
Hearing aids are a great tool to mitigate our hearing issues. Although they can be expensive, uncomfortable, and inconvenient. So what if there were a better way to deal with our increasing hearing loss? What if we could repair that bridge between the ears and the brain? Not only would you be increasing the volume of your hearing, but you'd also be increasing the clarity at which you hear. Currently there are a number of specialists, both major and smaller entities, trying to make this a possibility. Although currently there are very few methods on the market that take into consideration this breakthrough research on hearing loss. I encourage you to stay on the lookout to any new products or research on hearing loss, and perhaps you too can be one of the lucky few that has repaired their hearing to a quality they had in their younger days.
For now we will continue to populate this link section as we find more research and studies.
